Company History

Timeline

origins

With roots dating back to 1892, Encore Metals has not only seen but been a major player in the growth and development of the metals service center industry in Canada. In the beginning stocks mainly consisted of mining and tool steel to service the Klondike Gold Rush and the Canadian Pacific railway expansion.

opportunities

Gradually the range of steels was extended to include alloy machinery steels and spring steels and shortly before World War II, very small quantities of stainless steel. These were probably the first such inventories in Vancouver, BC.

new markets

The discovery of oil at Leduc, Alberta, in 1947 led us into the "oil-patch" market, and Encore soon opened operations in Edmonton and Calgary.

expansion

The 80's and 90's brought many new developments. We established a new branch in Winnipeg and expanded across the border into Seattle, Portland and Utah, solidifying our presence in the Pacific Northwest. Continued growth and a focus upon enhanced customer service supported a move in 1990 to an expanded Head Office and Service Centre in Delta, British Columbia.

global family

In 2007, Encore Metals joined the Reliance, Inc. family of companies. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Reliance is the largest metals service center company in North America. Through a network of more than 300 locations in 41 U.S. states and twelve countries outside of the United States, Reliance provides value-added metals processing services and distributes a full line of over 100,000 metals products.
